MOODY MONDAY
We underestimate the importance of a good nights sleep, if you don’t have enough sleep or even too much, your mood can change and it can also be difficult to function. Although you may not need 8 hours to regenerate, as we get older we can actually make do with just 5 or 6 hours a night.
In general we tend to sleep longer than we think we do and exaggerate the loss of sleep. I, my self actually said this same phrase this morning “ I haven’t slept all night “ which in fact I know I had, but when we wake up 2 or 3 times a night no matter if only just for a couple of minutes we get so annoyed that it feels a lot more than it actually was.
However, if you are feeling tired all the time and also mentally un-alert you could be suffering from Insomnia.
There are many reasons why people suffer from Insomnia. Pain, camps, fatigue, diet, stimulants worry and even not eating enough. Identifying the cause and removing the problem if possible is the first step. Here are some possible causes and solutions for you to get started with
Drinking before bed – If you are waking up in the middle of the night once or twice to go to the loo, then try and not have any fluids for at least a couple of hours before going to bed.
Eating late at night – This can cause flatulence and in turn pain and discomfort, which means not able to relax and sleep. Eat earlier just might just solve your problem
Tea and Coffee – These are both stimulants and can keep you awake at night and the last cup should be drank in most cases 6 hours before bed time, although you can try 4 and see what happens. Don’t forget fizzy drinks too such as coca-cola
Working late at night – Fatigue is caused by working late and night and even reading can cause over-stimulation. You can feel very tired but your brain will still be going.
Electricals in the bedroom – Its best to turn everything completely off. Television, computers and the likes have electromagnetic frequencies that upset the biological cycle of the body and should never be kept in the bedroom.
There are of course a lot more factors to your sleeping problem, the key is identifying it as best you can.
Emotional problems and anxiety tend to be a little more difficult to control, but you can help them with essential oils, in a warm bath ( not hot or cold ) or a nice foot soak and also using a blend of massage oil rubbed on your body before going to bed. A diffuser in the bedroom also works really well used overnight. Essential oils work fast on our emotions and calms a racing mind.
Essential oils for insomniacs
Lavender – Marjoram – Chamomile Roman – Nutmeg ( these are only relaxing when low doses, 3 drops max )
Benzoin – Clary Sage – Vetiver – Valerian
So put some nice relaxing music on, run the bath, have gentle lighting in the bedroom and put your diffuser on in the bedroom and enjoy a good nights sleep.
