Embracing Menopause

A lot of women worry about ‘The Menopause’ when really, shouldn ́t we be embracing and celebrating it, along with all the POSITIVE changes it brings??
No more painful heavy periods, no more PMS or monthly migraines.
Contraception is no longer a concern and you can enjoy doing what you want when you want.

Imagine not having to worry about your period arriving right in the middle of your holiday, or if your important meeting is just before your menstruation when your hormones are all over the place and you are simply not in the mood?
And of course, you can now have sex anytime you want, without thinking about contraception or wrong timing. You can be spontaneous in every aspect of your life !!!  

Yes, there may be a few downsides to Menopause, especially the transition years, starting with the perimenopausal stage, when  your ovaries are starting to run out of eggs and wind down. This causes fluctuations in the female hormones oestrogen and progesterone, which in turn can affect your periods. They can become irregular, heavier, lighter, shorter or longer, or some months may not come at all.

 

Changes to your periods are often the first sign of perimenopause, but other common symptoms include hot flushes and mood swings. Symptoms may come in waves and often get worse before your period, when oestrogen levels drop. But we can certainly help ourselves to go through this change smoothly, as luckily, Mother Nature is here to help out once again!

Menopause can start as early as in your 30 ́s, or menstruation may continue well into your 50 ́s. We are all different!

Just because your friend has experienced terrible hot flushes, does NOT mean you will too. In fact, the less you worry about it and the less attention you give it, the more likely you are to have that smooth ride.

THE REALITY

A survey carried out  found that only 25% of women had any symptoms. Out of these ladies, only 70% of them suffered from hot flushes; 40% depression; 30% sweating; 25% fatigue; and 15% had hair and skin changes – REMEMBER this is only out of 25% of women!!!!

CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE

HRT ( Hormone Replacement Therapy) is the easy option a lot of women are offered in order to control their symptoms. This contains; estrogen, types used include estradiol, estrone, estriol, and progestogen; a synthetic version of the hormone progesterone, such as dydrogesterone, medroxyprogesterone, norethisterone, or levonorgestrel.

 

Though it has been reported that it may help stop the progression of osteoporosis, there are still questions of whether HRT increases your chances of developing other physiological issues instead.

NATURAL OPTIONS

Luckily aromatherapy and herbal medicine offer a number of safe, natural alternatives.

Oestrogenic oils such as Clary Sage, Fennel, Star Anise, and Tarragon. Hormone Balancing oils such as Geranium or herbal remedies such as Agnus cactus, False unicorn root, Ladies Mantle, and more – all help maintain and balance hormone levels in the body.

Supplementing with evening primrose is important because it contains Linoleic acid, which the body needs to make oestrogen.
